Euper Lane Elementary opened n the fall of 1985 to serve families in the eastern part of Fort Smith. The school was established as a new home for students from Woods and Echols, with all of Echols Elementary’s students and teachers moving to the new building. From the very beginning, Euper Lane stood out for its forward-thinking approach to education and commitment to serving all children.

One of the most distinctive features of the school at its founding was its special education wing, designed to serve profoundly handicapped students from kindergarten through high school age. This inclusive model allowed students with a wide range of abilities to learn, work, and play together, an approach that was groundbreaking for its time. Educators, families, and even visitors from across the state came to see this unique integration in action. Over time, the special education program evolved, but Euper Lane’s pioneering spirit left a lasting mark on education in Fort Smith.
